I’m Going to Save You Years of Feeling Unsafe in Your Body With This One Concept | Ep. 515
In this episode, I talk about what it really means to create a sense of safety within your own body. For much of my life, sitting still and experiencing uncomfortable emotions or sensations felt incredibly difficult, and I spent a lot of energy trying to escape, control, or change what I was feeling. Over time, I learned that safety didn’t come from eliminating those feelings or controlling everything around me. It came from changing the way I responded to what was happening inside my body.
I share a practice I call the “four corners,” imagining the space between your shoulders and hips as a safe place where every emotion and sensation is allowed to exist. When discomfort shows up, instead of immediately analyzing it, resisting it, or trying to make it disappear, I encourage you to locate where you feel it, soften around it, and respond with kindness, acceptance, and curiosity. This isn’t about getting immediate relief. It’s about teaching yourself that you can safely experience discomfort without abandoning or fighting yourself.
Most importantly, building safety is a practice, not an end goal. We can’t control every trigger, thought, feeling, or situation around us, but we can practice showing up for whatever happens inside of us with more willingness and compassion. Each time we allow a difficult feeling to be there without judging or resisting it, we’re doing another “rep” that can help our bodies become a safer, kinder place to be.
